Time to Get Back

It was with a bang that I started this blog...just like it has been years since I last updated it. Well, here is to changing the later tide of things and getting back.

It held so much promise for me, and I am reviving that.

I hope to keep you hooked.

Farewell Chris James Pappas

“There comes a time when roads slowly part,
And others come together.
A time when birds fly away,
Leaving last thought in a falling feather.
Farewell it is right now,
But may it be a glimpse into the future.
Farewell is a chapter closed,
Farewell is a chapter open”

“The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you…” Buddah.

What is Love?

Children can probably answer better than most adults when it comes to love. The question was 'What is love'?

The answers they gave were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.'Billy- age 7

'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.'Karl - age 5

'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.' Chrissy - age 6

'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.'Terri - age 4

'Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.' Danny - age 7

'Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss' Emily - age 8

'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.' Bobby - age 7

'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,'Nikka - age 6

'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.' Noelle - age 7

'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.' Tommy - age 6

'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.'Cindy - age 8

'My mommy loves me more than anybodyYou don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.' Clare - age 6

'Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.'Elaine-age 5

'Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.' Chris - age 7

'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.'Mary Ann - age 4

'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones.' Lauren - age 4

'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' (what an image) Karen - age 7

'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.' Jessica - age 8

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.
The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbour, the little boy said,'Nothing, I just helped him cry'

Timeless quotes

For this post, Id like to share some quotes I found interesting and otherwise worthy to learn, keep and share. I think they make not only for great readings but are nuggets worth modeling life against. What do you think?

1. When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow--You may succeed with another blow, Success is failure turned inside out--The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far; So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--It's when things seem worst that you must not quit. (Unknown)

2.Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
(Nelson Mandela)

3.Yesterday is history. Tommorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift that's why they call it the present.
(Unknown)

4. ...the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it. - The Lion King
(Rafikki)

5. Never be afraid to try, remember...Amateurs built the ark, Professionals built the Titanic.(Unknown) - one of my very favourites

6.One grain may tip the scale. One man may make the difference between victory and defeat.(Mulan)

I could go on and on, lets muse on these!

Climate change

So I joined this youth network: AYICC. As you can guess, it deals with climate change and not just its change as the new catch word, climate change is a grim reality that must be faced simply because it is here with us. AYICC is The Africa Youth Innitiative on Climate Change, Kenyan chapter.

Saturday 13th Feb, Emerging Leaders Summit, this event will take perspective on our generations challenge still on climate change. This inagaural event will see youth engage leaders in Kenyan society (not restrictive to these alone- feature will see an ambassedour open the sessions) for a whole day. Chief co-ordinator AYICC will be presenting a sessional paper and resolutions on behalf.

In being concious of my environment, I hope to make a change and change the tide of climate and its effects in a positive direction. Go AYICC...
